Sin and Salvation in Baptist Town – Matt Eich
Since 2010, photographer Matt Eich has returned to the town of Greenwood, Mississippi to explore the race and class disparity in this historically divided community. Here, his subject is his audience and he uses photography to introduce neighbors to one another in an honest and intimate way.
Matt Eich is the oldest of four children and grew up in the peanut-farming town of Suffolk, Virginia. Eich studied photojournalism at Ohio University and works for clients including National Geographic, Esquire, Harper's, TIME, Apple, Tiffany & Company and others. His work has been internationally awarded, exhibited in both group and solo shows and is in the permanent collections of The Portland Art Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Light Work and the New York Public Library. These days Eich lives in Norfolk, Virginia with his family while working on long-form projects around America.
