Overview

Inspired by the project Typecast, exhibited at Photoville from September 12 u2013 22, 2019. In this lesson students will create a self-portrait diptych inspired by the project. They begin by reflecting on their identity and the stereotypes they inherited from the world around them; after reflecting on their personal and public identities, they examine the work of Typecast and draw conclusions about the artistsu2019 overall concept; lastly, they use their analyses as inspiration for their own diptych featuring their typecast self versus their ideal self. This lesson was written with both digital and traditional classes in mind, with multiple options to fit the needs of both.nnLearning objectives: analyze and identify the importance of media literacy; understand and identify image portrayals, constructions, and representations within media; and create two self-portraits based on personal narratives.nnThis lesson plan was created during United Photo Industriesu2019 Spring 2019 Teacher Professional Development Day at the Annenberg Space for Photography presents Photoville LA.
