Org Spotlight: Youth in Focus

Here at PhotoWings we are always excited to hear of other organizations finding inspirational ways to make the world a better place through photography. Youth in Focus is a Seattle based non-profit organization which utilizes the power of photography to facilitate healing and growth with at-risk youth. To date, the organization has helped thousands of students succeed with a program that is "designed to empower youth through camera lenses, provide tools to explore the world they really see, and enable what is inside them to slowly unfold."

The organization began when a retired school teacher named Walter Bodle moved back to Seattle and decided to start a summer photography program to give at-risk Seattle youth a positive creative outlet. Today, Youth In Focus has after-school and summer programs that serve the Seattle community year-round.

Recently, Youth in Focus joined the pop-up A Gallery on Occidental Park to present Who We Really Are, a photographic installation featuring photos taken by students in their youth development photography program. You can view images of the show here.
