Stanley Greene was born in New York. As a teenager, he was a member of the Black Panthers and an anti-Vietnam War activist. An encounter with W. Eugene Smith turned his energies to photojournalism. Greene has photographed wars and poverty in Africa, the former Soviet Union, Central America, Asia, and the Middle East. He has won five World Press Photo awards, is a recipient of the Eugene Smith Humanistic Grant and numerous other awards. Stanley has published two successful books: “Open Wound” in 2004 and more recently “Black Passport” which is a personal journal. Stanley is based in Paris.
