Research-based documentary photography is a profound narrative medium characterized by its commitment to in-depth exploration of the subject. At this installment of our Continuing Education Series, we were joined by the photographer Mathieu Asselin, renowned for his long-term investigative documentary projects and the acclaimed book, “Monsanto: A Photographic Investigation,” to explore thought-provoking questions surrounding research-based work and reflect on the evolving role of photographers.
Together with Mathieu, we explored the genre of research beyond the traditional boundaries of documentary or “fly on the wall” approach. This session will be especially useful for those who rely on robust research or want to implement it in their work. We aim to reveal how significant moments can be woven into today’s context to offer insight into specific themes, issues, or social phenomena.
