In this session, Magnum Foundation’s Sarah Perlmutter and Magnum Foundation grant recipient Nada Harib will walk through how to build a successful grant proposal, including common mistakes made (and learned from!), and how to keep yourself on track with all the moving parts.
Sarah Perlmutter is a photographer and writer based between New York City and Oakland, California. She is Manager of Communications and Development at Magnum Foundation, where she works with grantees on editing, writing, and sharing their work. She previously held positions as a Radcliffe Institute Research Partner and Aperture Work Scholar, and holds a degree in Art, Film, and Visual Studies from Harvard University.

Born and raised in Tripoli, Libya, Nada Harib is an independent photographer whose practice focuses on both long-term stories and daily news in Libya and the United States. Nada is a recipient of the Arab Documentary Photography Program and Magnum Foundation Grants, the Aftermath Project grant, the Mary Ellen Mark Memorial Scholarship, and was a mentee of the VII Mentor Program. Her work has been published in outlets including Reuters, Getty, The BBC, The Washington Post, and Vogue and has been exhibited throughout the world. An image from her “Women of Libya” series was selected as the cover for Women Photograph’s book “What We See.” A graduate of ICP, she’s also a contributor to @EverydayAfrica, @EverydayMiddleEast, and is a member of the African Photojournalism Database.
