Empowering Communities with Photography: 100 Cameras
100 Cameras has a simple mantra: give photography, change a community. For the past 5 years, they have used this mantra as the backbone for an array of educational photography projects across the globe, from New York City to India to South Sudan, helping renew communities and create immediate and long-term change.
100 Cameras works by partnering with local organizations and teaching students in those local communities how to share their stories through a carefully developed photography curriculum. At the end of the course, 100 Cameras make prints of the work the students produce and provides these prints for sale, giving 100% of the proceeds back to the community to aid them wherever the community sees a need. The photographic education provides students with skills that will last well into the future while the funds generated by their work provide much need immediate change. 100 Cameras has created a balanced system which combines the long term with the short, and focuses on specific needs of local people, empowering them to build a sustainable and brighter future.
